The Volta Region Police Command, has condemned the protests by youth of Sogakope following the gruesome murder of an assembly member, Marcus Mawutor Adzahli.
Public Relations officer of the Command, Corporal Prince Dogbatse, in an interview with Anopa Kasapa Morning show host, Kweku Owusu Adjei said the pandemonium by the youth of the area was needless and amounts to misbehaviour and lawlessness.
“There are concerns that the police did not respond promptly and that is why the youth engaged in all manner of misbehaviour; blocking the road. We’ll expect the public to cooperate with the police so that our work will be enhanced for the general good of the people that we are mandated to protect,” he noted.
Marcus, who doubled as a mobile money vendor, was found dead after sporadic gunshots were heard at his residence on Sunday, March 1, 2020.
His killing forced residents to block roads to protest violent crimes and the seeming failure of the police to intervene.
The blockade caused gridlock in the area, leaving many travellers stranded.
But Corporal Dogbatse reacting to the development said their action did not add anything to the security of the place, adding it was rather an action of misbehaviour.
“We expect that if they have concerns they can best address them rather than embarking on such demonstrations which are not in tune with the law.” he stressed
Police are yet to ascertain the full facts of the matter, but according to the Command investigations into the heinous crime has begun, while it has mounted search for the perpetrators who are at large.
“There were varied accounts. Some alleged it was contract killing, others say it was robbery, but our position cannot be informed by rumours. We need to go into the matter and come out with facts.
“For us our mandate is to investigate and we have launched investigations into it.”
