Assemblyman allegedly beats health officer over mosquito net

The assemblyman for Koraso electoral area at Berekum, Emmanuel Amankona, has allegedly assaulted a health officer from the Ghana Health Service.

According to a news report by the Daily Guide, a member of the treated insecticide net team of the District Health Directorate, Darteh Collins, was allegedly beaten by the assemblyman while performing his duty.

The victim, Collins, told the police that, the assemblyman, Emmanuel Amankona and his people pounced on him because he failed to inform him before the distribution of treated mosquito nets.

Narrating the incident, Darteh Collins said, while distributing the nets to beneficiaries at Koraso Information Centre, the assemblyman for the area came and stopped the distribution on the grounds that he was not informed prior to the exercise.

In the process, he snatched a Samsung tablet being used by personnel that contained the database of the materials distributed.

Two other members of the team in addition to the head of the team, Darteh Collins, allegedly received slaps from the assemblyman.

The assemblyman was said to have bolted with the tablet being used for the exercise.

But the police in the Koraso electoral area have arrested the assemblyman who is now facing assault charges.

The regional police spokesman, Chief Inspector Kingsley Augustine Oppong confirmed the assault case to the Daily Guide phone.

The unfortunate incident happened on September 10, 2018.
