Assemblyman, community members team up to build clinic

Members of the Namolo community in the Kasena-Nankana Municipal Assembly of the Upper East Region have with support from the Municipal Health Directorate joined forces with their Assemblyman, Mensah Kofi Anthony to build an ultra-modern clinic for the area.

The facility which will serve people from the outer suburbs of Namolo and surrounding communities will include accommodation for staff, delivery room, consulting room and a mini ward for admission of patients.

Engagements for the quick start of work have commenced and land for the project has already been secured from the community leaders and donations from well-wishers towards the construction of the clinic have also begun in earnest.

The Upper East Regional Minister, Tangoba Abayage who lauded the efforts of community and Assemblyman has supported the project with one hundred bags of cement. Another person, Alhaji Abdallah Otito Achuliwor has also donated fifty cement bags.

When completed, the facility will provide the basic healthcare need of the people and lift the pressure and time spent at the Navrongo Central health Centre and the War Memorial Hospital – the two major health facilities in Navrongo.

The clinic is also expected to play a big role in the control and prevention of diseases and serve as a point for managing minor health problems.

Addressing the media at a ceremony to launch the project and garner support from community members, the Assemblyman who doubles as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Constituency Chairman for Navrongo Central intimated that the need to give his people who live in the farthest part of his electoral area access to good healthcare from a well-equipped health facility birthed the idea.

He said issues including walking long distances and waiting in long queues to access treatment in the big hospital and some of the complaints he receives most often from his people, adds to why it is important to put up the clinic.

“During my numerous rounds it was proposed by community members after several complaints of the distance and time spent in getting healthcare that we put up an additional health facility to serve the areas not close to town so that they can also enjoy access to good healthcare when they fall sick or have any health-related issues which can be handled at the clinic. So I put the idea out during our assembly deliberations and I was given the opportunity by the directorate of health service”.

“We contacted the community and they bought into the idea and gave us land to put up the facility. So today we are here finally to launch the project with the chiefs and people of Namolo, the Municipal health directorate and our well-wishers”.

“Our idea of the facility will have a place for the staff to lay their heads, a delivery room, a consulting room and a mini ward which can admitting a least five to six people”. He stated.

Mr. Mensah noted the financial difficulty the project will likely face and explained he would discuss with the Municipal Assembly to support the project in every way they can.

He expressed optimism in his people’s support and urged members from his electoral area from near and wide, benevolent individuals and societies and corporate bodies to support the project.

He made donated soap and other detergents, salt and other items to the community to show appreciation for their mammoth support for the project.

Lambert Dikumwine, the Municipal Disease Control Officer, who gave a speech on behalf of the Municipal Director of Health Service, thanked the Assemblyman and community leaders for coming together to construct a clinic that will bring health services to the doorsteps of the people.

He said the general wellbeing of the people play an integral role in the development of the community and an idea to put up a clinic is one that should be embraced by all.

Mr. Dikumwine used the opportunity to tell the gathering about activities of his outfit and urged the people to patronise their services and work closely with health professionals to ensure good health.

” I will urge all of you to patronise whatever services that we bring to you and are going on and also support the workers that will come to your communities to carry out such services so that you can continue to be healthy for a prosperous community”.

Piose Talua, the Tiga Tu (Landlord) who chaired the occasion, expressed his appreciation to the health directorate and Assemblyman for the brilliant idea to have a clinic construct for his people.

He was happy that the facility will bring an end to their long time challenge of waiting in long queues at the big hospitals when such precious time could have been channelled into productive ventures.

The Tiga Tu assured both the Assemblyman and health directorate of the community’s unwavering commitment to the project.

“Aside the land that we have dedicated to the project at Baniu, we the community leaders will also do all we can to build for ourselves the clinic. We all know the good the clinic will bring to us and we will not play with its construction", he assured.
