Assin Apimanim celebrates Tufu

Assin Manso (C/R) Dec. 10 GNA - Barima Kwame Nkyi, Omanhene of the Assin Apimanim Traditional Area, on Tuesday commended the government for creating the Assin South District and making Assin Manso its capital.

He said the measure could assist in facilitating the progress of the people and called on the people to support the government's developmental programme.

Barima Nkyi was speaking at celebration of the annual "Tufu" Festival of the Area, at Assin Manso, which coincided with the 35th anniversary of his rule.

He assured the government that the people would contribute to the development of the new district and that of the country.

The Omanhene appealed to the government to re-introduce arbitration courts to enable chiefs to settle minor cases instead of the people resorting to the law courts, which according to him was time wasting and money consuming.

Professor Dominic Fobi, Minister of Lands and Forestry appealed to the people for government's support to enable it carry out its development programme.

Captain (rtd) Nkrabea Effah Dartey, deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, appealed to the people to register with the Health Insurance Scheme so that they would be assured of good quality health care.

Citizens from the area who have distinguished themselves in various aspects of life and contributed to the development of the area including Dr Sam Jona, Chief Executive of Ashanti Gold Fields were hounerd with the late Justice Cecilia Koranteng Addo honoured posthumously.
