The Functional Executive Committee (FEC) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has suspended the Central Regional Chairman, Professor Richard Asiedu, with immediate effect.

This decision comes in the wake of a meeting held on July 2, 2024, which focused on the withdrawal of the Assin Central parliamentary candidate, Shaibu Migyimah, over alleged amorous relations with the wife of the constituency General Secretary, Sadique Broni.

"The Regional Chairman, Prof. Richard Asiedu, is hereby suspended as Regional Chairman for one month effective immediately and is referred to the National Disciplinary Committee of the party on a charge of anti-party conduct," the NDC's General Secretary, Fifi Kwetey, stated in a letter.

Additionally, the Constituency Secretary, Sadique Broni, has also been suspended for one month and will face the National Disciplinary Committee on similar charges of anti-party conduct.

The FEC's letter also nullifies the previous decision to withdraw Shaibu Migyimah as the parliamentary candidate for Assin Central, effectively reinstating him for the upcoming 2024 general elections.

Earlier, the Central Regional branch of the NDC withdrew Migyimah's candidacy, citing immoral acts and anti-party activities.

This decision followed an investigation and consultation with key stakeholders, leading to his suspension from the party for six months and referral to the Regional Disciplinary Committee.

However, the FEC's recent meeting overturned this decision, maintaining Migyimah as the NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Assin Central.
