Assist us trace boy - Scotland Yard

Accra, Sept. 24, GNA - The Metropolitan Police of New Scotland Yard, London, on Friday appealed for information leading to the discovery of a 15 year-old boy who was allegedly brought into the country in 1990 from Britain.

It said a 10,000-pound reward had been posted for anyone who might give information on Ames Glover.

Detective Chief Inspector David Ainscough of the Metropolitan Police of New Scotland Yard said at a news conference organised with the Ghana Police Service in Accra that Ames was allegedly brought into the country when he was about six-months old.

Mr Ainscough said Ames and her mother of Sri Lankan descent called Shanika and a Ghanaian father called Paul Azu or Glover were leaving at Southhall, West London, when Mr Glover reported that he was missing. He said the couple was no longer married and it was believed that the boy was abducted and brought to Ghana about 14 years ago. Mr Glover left Ames, then five months old, alone on the back seat of his car for about 20 minutes at the Lloyds Bank cash point and a nearby restaurant and locked the car. When he returned, he found that Ames had been stolen.

He circulated a picture, which he said was taken at Kakum National Park three years ago, which could be that of Ames when he was 11 years old.

Mr Ainscough asked members of the public with any information on Ames to either contact the British High Commission on 021-783544 or the Ghana Police on 021-777428.

Mr Ainscough said that the British only want to find out whether Ames is alive and where he is living. They also want to know how he got into the country and ascertain whether he is safe.

Meanwhile Paul, Ames' father, is still living in Britain, and is helping the Police in their investigations.

Mr Patrick Ampewuah, Deputy Director of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), urged all to assist locate Ames if he is in the country. He added that the police would ensure confidentiality of informants.
