Koforidua, Sept 02, GNA - The Eastern Regional branch of the Veterinary Medical Technicians Association of Ghana (VEMTAG) has called on the Accountants General's Department to stop the one percent deduction from their salaries.

It also called for the immediate refund of the deductions that had been made and credited to the accounts of the Ghana National Agricultural Technical Class Association ((GNATCA) since 2002. A statement signed by Mr Atta Boakye, the Regional Chairman of the VEMTAG, said three years ago GNATCA began the monthly deductions, purported to be dues without the VEMTAG's consent.

The statement said the national secretariat of VEMTAG drew the attention of the GNATCA to the anomaly and it promised to rectify the mistake as soon as possible.

''On the contrary, the deductions have not ceased despite series of meetings with the GNATCA and even when a copy of VEMTAG's registered members who had been affected by the deductions was submitted to it.'' "It was at one of such meetings that it was discovered that GNATCA had no register of it's own members and yet was making the deductions arbitrarily", the statement said.

The statement requested the Minister of Food and Agriculture to intervene to resolve the matter amicably.
