Association calls on Minister to help resolve dispute

Tamale, July 6, GNA- The Executive Members of the Bimoba Youth and Development Association have appealed to the Northern Regional Minister, Mr Ernest Debrah to help resolve the protracted land dispute between the Louk and Nakuuk clans of the Bimoba Traditional Area. Making the appeal during a courtesy call on the Minister, the President of the Association, Mr Peter Laare expressed regret that the dispute had disrupted agricultural and other socio-economic activities of the people in the area. The visit was to officially welcome the Minister and his Deputy to office and also to wish them well in the management of the affairs of the region.

Mr Laare noted that the land dispute had led to occasional sporadic fighting between the two clans resulting in the loss of lives and property, as well as financial cost to the state. He said: "We want you to intervene to find a lasting solution to this nagging dispute to return peace and unity to the people so that we can go about our economic activities without fear of intimidation." Mr Laare also appealed to the government to consider creating a separate district for the Bunkpurugu-Yunyoo constituency in the East Mamprusi District to promote the rapid development of the area.

The President of the Association appealed to the government to rehabilitate the feeder roads in the area to link them to marketing centres to facilitate free movement of goods and people. He said most of the feeder roads in the area were now in a very bad shape because of long neglect and expressed the fear that they might get worse if the rains set in. The Association pledged its unflinching support to the NPP government and urged it to continue to implement policies and programmes that would improve the living conditions of the people.

Mr Debrah expressed his appreciation to the Association for the visit, saying he was happy that the members had seen the need for peace and advised them to carry the message to the people. He noted that there could be no meaningful development in an atmosphere of chaos and asked the leadership of the association to educate the youth on the need to maintain peace in their localities. The Minister assured the association of the government's preparedness to ensure transparency in the administration of the country. Accompanying the Executives of the Association was the Member of Parliament for Bunkpurugu-Yunyoo, Mr Namburr Barrick.
