Association of Training Colleges holds Congress in August

Sunyani (B/A), July 3, GNA - About 180 delegates of the Ashanti and Brong-Ahafo Association of Teacher Training Colleges, are expected to converge in Sunyani on August 4 to hold the association's 12th Annual Delegates Congress. The Congress will elect new executives for the 2008/2009 academic year. Mr Usman Fakih Suallah, Deputy General Secretary of the Association, told the Ghana News Agency in Sunyani on Thursday that about 20 members had filed their nominations to contest for 12 executive positions.

"A lot of people from the 10 training colleges of the association have filed their nominations to contest for the various positions and we are still waiting for other interested members to join the race", he added. Mr Suallah said the Congress would be used to create awareness among the public and teacher training colleges about the activities of the Association.

"It is important we go for the Annual Congress to elect leaders and to expose and strengthen the Association towards the achievements of our set targets", he said.

Mr Suallah noted that delegates would also discuss issues concerning the new educational reform programme towards its effective implementation through teacher trainees. He said that a leadership seminar would be organized for the participants to help improve their teaching skills to enhance academic excellence in basic schools in the two regions. "All measures have been put in place to ensure a successful congress", he said and appealed to all members to attend. 3 July 08
