Association supports Tontokrom Buruli Ulcer patients

Kumasi, April 1, GNA- The Asafo Market Fish Sellers Association in Kumasi has made a cash donation of One million cedis and two cartons each of frozen chicken and fish in support of the upkeep of buruli ulcer patients at the Tontokrom Disabled Training Centre in the Amansie West District.

Nana Ama Akomanin, President of the Association said it was in response to an appeal by the centre for assistance. She gave the assurance that the donation was not going to be the last, saying, "we certainly would become one of their main benefactors".

Mr Kofi Adu, Executive Director of the Centre said they were grateful for the assistance. He noted that the 35 trainees at the centre were "very much dependent on charity", for their sustenance and called on individuals and groups in the society to help provide some comfort for them.

The trainees, aged between 12 and 35 years and carrying varied forms of physical deformities are being trained in dressmaking and other vocational skills at the centre to enable them become economically self-supporting.
