Goaso (B/A), April 13, GNA - The Asunafo South District Assembly in the Brong-Ahafo Region on Monday failed to elect it's Presiding Member (PM). Two weeks ago, the assembly could not elect a PM after a second round of voting. The failure to elect a PM has impossible for the Assembly to endorse Mr. Atta Bosompem, the president's nominee as the District Chief Executive (DCE) after the dismissal of the former DCE, Mr. Fleance Danso.

A total number of 40 members formed the Assembly whilst three of them contested for the position but none of them obtained the required two-thirds majority of valid votes cast after the first round of election.

The contestants were; Messrs Ibrahim Aziz, Isaac Kwasi Bonsu and Ankama Boateng. Messrs Aziz and Bonsu, two leading contestants went to a second round contest but no winner emerged. In the first round, while Mr. Aziz obtained 24 votes, Mr. Bonsu had 16 and the third candidate, Mr.Boateng who had zero was therefore disqualified.

Since the second round of voting could not produce a winner, a third time election to be organised by the Assembly was slated at a later date.

The elections were supervised by officers the Electoral Commission. Meanwhile, Mr. Bosompem in an interview with the Ghana News Agency expressed regret about the assembly's inability to elect a PM, saying that could retard the progress and development of the district.
