The Atebubu-Amantin Municipal Assembly has outlined tougher measures to prevent a possible outbreak of COVID-19 in the Municipality.

These measures were accepted at a stakeholder’s engagement organised by the Assembly on COVID-19.

The meeting became necessary following the noncompliance with the many directives aimed at reducing community spread of the novel coronavirus.

The event brought together the leadership of security agencies, transport unions, traders, traditional rulers and religious bodies in the Municipality.

The key stakeholders agreed to ensure that the measures put in place by the Assembly will be adhered to.

Strict compliance with the social distance protocol at the various markets centres and lorry parks, total ban on all religious activities and a ban on recreational activities such as playing football, are some of the measures that the Assembly intends to enforce in the coming days.

The Municipal Chief Executive for the Atebubu-Amantin Municipality, Honourable Edward Owusu told participants that the Assembly has taken the initiative to create some level of citizenship awareness and ensure compliance to prevent an outbreak in the Municipality.

He revealed the move has become necessary owing to the lax attitude of residents in relation the precautionary measures.

“We have decided to institute and implement a multifaceted approach at preventing an outbreak of the virus in the Municipality. People were doing their own thing even after the president had issued precautionary measures so we decided to look at our unique situation and develop new rules and probably make modifications as well.

“We have done that in consultation with the various stakeholders within our catchment area and we are hopeful of compliance”, Honourable Edward Owusu revealed.
