Ghana goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi could not hide his excitement after passing the litmus test once again for Saint Gallen as they humbled FC Basel to go top of the Swiss Super League on Sunday.

The onus was on the custodian when the Green and White lads made the trip to the St. Jakob-Park to engage FC Basel on matchday 20 of the season after his last week's debut heroics in the victory against Lugano.

The 23-year-old stood between St. Gallen and the wounded FC Basel as the hosts were aiming to return to winning ways following their 2-0 defeat against Young Boys last weekend.

"Glory to God. Great team performance and thanks to all of you for your amazing support," the in-form shot-stopper said after Sunday's crucial match.

FC Basel started the match spiritedly before fetching the opener through Kevin Bua in the 19th minute.

The hosts threatened to double their advantage before the end of the first half but their efforts were thwarted by the Ghanaian shot-stopper.

St. Gallen found their way back into the game on the stroke of half time courtesy Fazliji Betim's powerful strike.

Ati-Zigi kept FC Basel at bay in the second half with plethora of fantastic saves amid fireworks at the St Jakob Park.

A goal by André Ribeiro in the 93rd minute helped St. Gallen clawed to the top of the standings with 41 points, same as second placed team Young Boys while FC Basel remained in 3rd position with 36 points.

Ati-Zigi joined the club from French Ligue 2 side FC Sochaux during the January transfer window as a replacement for Dejan Stojanovic, who left the Swiss club to England to join Middlesborough.
