Ato Arthur lauds Central Regional Police

Cape Coast, Jan. 15, GNA- The Central Regional Minister, Nana Ato Arthur over the weekend, lauded the region's police personnel for their hard work and dedication to duty, which brought crime to the barest minimum, resulting in a peaceful atmosphere throughout the region last year.

He pointed out that the region has challenging areas such as Kasoa and the University of Cape Coast (UCC), where unauthorized structures had to be demolished while chieftaincy problems also abounds throughout the region.

Nana Arthur made the commendation at the annual 93WASSA" get-together for Police personnel in the region at Cape Coast. He cautioned the police against complacency and urged them to work harder to uplift the image of their profession.

"The Police profession is a disciplined and noble one" he stressed and urged the few bad nuts amongst them to rededicate themselves to be disciplined and work harder to achieve laurels. The Regional Police Commander, DOP, Mrs Rose Atinga Bio said even though the year was a challenging one, her officers and men did well and urged them to remain focused because with the nation's jubilee celebrations around the corner, the year would be more challenging due to the expected influx of tourists to the region. She paid glowing tribute to philanthropists and organizations including the Regional Minister and one Mr Joe Vicandy a business man for their support to the regional police command.

The Minister sourced funds to the tune of 60 million cedis with a personal contribution of 20 million cedis towards the rehabilitation of the municipal Police barracks at Cape Coast, while Mr Vicandy also gave 60 million cedis and chairs to the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit.

Four police personnel who distinguished themselves were given various awards including refrigerators and TV sets. ASP Nicholas Gasu, the Winneba District Commander was adjudged the overall best worker and was presented with a double door frost free refrigerator for his ingenuity in maintaining law and order in his area. Constable Felix Adwo, who refused a two million cedis bribe from a suspect he arrested for dealing in narcotic drugs, was also awarded with a refrigerator while the Dunkwa-on-Offin district commander, ASP Nana Kumi had a 20 inch colour television for his hard work. Superintendent Daniel Gibson Danso, the regional tax-force commander also received a washing machine for his dedication to duty. 15 Jan 07
