The Director of Legal Affairs of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Godwin Edudzi Tameklo, has criticized the Attorney General (AG) and Minister for Justice for his comments following the dismissal of the mistrial application against him in the ongoing trial of Minority Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson.

Speaking in an interview on Radio Gold on June 7, 2024, Edudzi said that Godfred Dame would be silent if he had any sense of shame.

He mentioned that while the Attorney General is celebrating the dismissal of the application against him, he has neglected to acknowledge that he did not make the comments in the leaked audio recording of a phone call between him and the third accused in the trial, Richard Jakpa.

“This Attorney General has no shame at all. Why would the judge advise him to recuse himself from the case if he had not done anything that warranted such advice?

“But I’m not surprised; the good book says pride comes before a great fall. Let's proceed with this trial and you will see. Why has he not been able to file an affidavit in opposition?... He is a joke; he is such a coward. Do you know why he has refused to file?” he questioned.

The lawyer added, “He is afraid of perjury. In all of this, have you heard him say that it is not his voice on the audio? He has no conscience; otherwise, he would not be speaking.”

Background:

The High Court in Accra dismissed an application by Minority Leader Cassiel Ato Forson seeking a mistrial and an investigation into the conduct of the Attorney General in the ongoing ambulance case.

The trial judge ruled that Forson had not demonstrated any statutory provisions that would justify a mistrial or an inquiry into the Attorney General's actions.

On Monday, June 3, 2024, Dr. Ato Forson filed a supplementary affidavit supporting his motion for a mistrial, injunction, and/or stay of proceedings in the ambulance case against him and two others.

The Ajumako-Enyan-Esiam legislator’s legal team cited a leaked tape between Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame and the third accused, Richard Jakpa. The tape allegedly revealed Dame attempting to coach Jakpa to implicate Dr. Ato Forson in the trial.

In their affidavit, Forson's lawyers argued that the Attorney General had misconducted himself and called for the prosecution to be declared a mistrial.

The judge, however, in her ruling, advised the Attorney General to recuse himself from the case.

Godfred Dame, after the proceeding, indicated that the court had vindicated him.

While singing a hymn, the AG said that so many traps have been set for him, but he will escape all of them.
