The legal counsel to the Minority Leader in Parliament, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has expressed his confidence in his client's innocence, stating that he had always believed Dr. Forson was being persecuted, not prosecuted.

The Court of Appeal overturned a previous ruling, acquitting and discharging the Minority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson; and Richard Jakpa of charges related to the Ambulance Case.

The two had been accused of causing a financial loss of €2.37 million to the state in a deal to procure ambulances for the government of Ghana.

The Court of Appeal's 2-1 decision, led by Justice Kweku Tawiah Ackah-Boafo and Justice Philip Bright Mensah, contradicted the trial court's previous order requiring Dr. Forson and Jakpa to open their defense.

However, Justice Alex Poku Acheampong dissented from the majority decision.

In response to the ruling, Attorney General Godfred Dame expressed his disagreement, stating that the decision goes against the weight of evidence presented by the prosecution.

Despite this, Edudzi Tameklo, lead counsel to Ato Forson, remains confident that if the AG challenges the ruling, his client will still be vindicated.

Tameklo, speaking in an interview with JoyNews on Tuesday, maintained his client's innocence and said he is relieved that the Court of Appeal has upheld their rights.

"I’ve always believed in the innocence of my client [Dr Cassiel Ato Forson] and I can tell you, whether Supreme Court or Antoa or Nogokpo, my client will he vindicated," he insisted.

The acquittal brings an end to the Ambulance Case, which had been a subject of controversy.
