The special parliamentary committee led by Abuakwa South MP, Samuel Atta Akyea, formed to investigate a leaked audio tape allegedly plotting the removal of Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has submitted its report to Parliament.

The committee, established by Speaker Alban Bagbin, was constituted amid national concern following the leak.

The findings, which detail the committee's examination of the audio discussions and any subsequent recommendations, were presented to Parliament, marking a pivotal moment in this high-profile inquiry.

The leaked audio in question involved senior police officers and Daniel Bugri Naabu, the former Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), discussing plans to oust the IGP.

The committee's report was officially laid before Parliament on Tuesday, June 18, with the Clerk of Parliament stating, "The report of the Special Committee of Inquiry into the contents of a leaked audio tape of a high-ranking police officer and others in an alleged conspiracy to remove the current Inspector-General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, and related matters has been duly presented."

The report's submission is expected to bring clarity to the incident and guide Parliament's response to the findings.

The terms of reference for the committee included to establish the authenticity of the leaked audio recording, investigate the conspiracy to remove the current IGP, investigate any other matter contained in the audio recording, recommend sanctions to persons found culpable where appropriate, make recommendations for reforms where necessary and make such other recommendations and consequential orders as the committee might deem appropriate.
