Atta-Mills Off To Geneva

NDC Flagbearer Professor John Evans Atta-Mills left Accra last Saturday night aboard a British Airways flight for Geneva, Switzerland, to attend the Eleventh Meeting of the United Nations Ad Hoc Group of Experts on International Cooperation in Tax Matters.

Professor Atta-Mills, who has been a member of the Expert Group since 1994, will deliver a paper on "The Interaction between Tax, Trade and Investment".

According to Mr. Abdel Hamid Bough, Secretary to the Expert Group, the meeting will discuss and make recommendations to the United Nations on several International Taxation mattes including the following:
(i) The Tax Treatment of Cross Border Interest Income and Capital Flight ? Recent Developments;
(ii) Electronic Commerce and Developing Countries;
(iii) International Framework for strengthening International Tax Cooperation;
(iv) Revision and Update of the United Nations Model Convention between Developed and Developing Countries;
(v) Revision and Update of the Manual for the Negotiation of Bilateral Tax Treaties between Developed and Developing Countries.
Professor Mills returns to Ghana on Saturday, December 20, 2003.
