Atta Mills was father for all, learn from him – Mahama to Akufo-Addo

Former President John Dramani Mahama has described recent actions of his successor, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as ones disintegrating the unity in the country. John Mahama asserted that the Akufo-Addo administration seem to be practicing nepotism with regards to appointments and job opportunities.

He cited an earlier submission by Ghana’s High Commissioner to South Africa George Ayisi Boateng who noted that his outfit would prioritise the needs of NPP party members before every other Ghanaian and condemned the approach of the incumbent administration towards meeting the needs of the citizenry.

“…one of the things that I’m sad about is a certain tendency that is destroying the spirit of national integration and unity. We might belong to different political parties but we are Ghanaians first and foremost and the opportunities of this country should open up to all Ghanaians and this is why President Mills had the mantra ‘Father for all’. It meant that he was president of all Ghanaians and so all Ghanaians should enjoy the opportunities.” He stated

The former gentleman of the land who was speaking at the maiden National Conference of Ex-MMDCES on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at the Mensvic Hotel in Accra also admonished the Akufo-Addo administration to mimic the approach of his predecessors from the opposition party who levelled the playing field by making everyone despite the party affiliations enjoy the benefits of the state resources.

“If we’re to build a nation then we must have that heart to accommodate everybody in the economic advancement of our country. But since the NPP came it was like…. And they say it in a proverb, “you have to feed your children before you feed somebody else’s children, who are somebody’s children..? he quizzed

“…when they come to take the taxes they don’t ask NPP people to pay first before NDC people pay. Tax has no political colouration, all of us pay and so everybody must enjoy the benefits that this state is to offer.”

Since assuming office, the NPP government have come under heavy criticisms from other political party heads and some sections of the public for giving preferential treatment to members and enthusiasts of the party rather than all Ghanaians.
