The New Patriotic Party NPP-Electoral Area Coordinators and Polling Station Officers of the Tamale-South and Central Constituencies have vehemently opposed actions taken by Constituency Executives of the party against the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) of Tamale, Hon. Iddrisu Musah Superior.

Constituency Executives from the Tamale South and North of the party yesterday at a press confab called for the immediate removal of Mr. Iddrisu Musah Superior from office citing misconduct and selling contracts to his cronies.

But in a counter conference today, the NPP electoral Coordinators and Polling station officers described the allegations against the Tamale Mayor as bogus and baseless that seeks to tarnish the hard won reputation of the current African Mayor of the Year.

The NPP group again describes the Tamale North and South Constituency Executives as a bunch of self-seeking vampires, whose intentions are to derail the pace of development in Tamale.

The NPP group stated categorically that they were never consulted by the constituency executives on such scandalous agenda and sturdily disassociate themselves of such a call made by these Constituency Executives. The NPP group stated that they were very outraged that the Constituency executives will resort to such a bestial approach of threatening a no mean person but the president of the Republic of Ghana in order to get him to meet their demands.

They queried whether Constituency Executives had exhausted all available channels to resolve their grievances as prescribed by Article 4 of the NPP’s constitution.

“We the Electoral Area Coordinators and Polling Agents of the aforementioned constituencies wish to state emphatically that we do not support this action being taken by these Executives of the party. We would like to add that we were never consulted by our constituency executives of such a heinous agenda. We find the action of these executives as unfortunate and fully disassociate ourselves from such a call, which does not fall within the traditions and values of the New Patriotic Party".

The NPP Coordinators and Polling Station officers reiterated that, all allegations leveled against the Tamale Mayor by the Constituency Executives is of no effect, adding that the Constituency Executives lack basic knowledge on procurement of the laws of Ghana.

"They accused the mayor of awarding contracts to his cronies whilst ignoring constituency executives. This claim by the executives shows that they lack basic knowledge on the procurement laws of Ghana. The MCE does not unilaterally award contracts. It is a known fact that the contracts are tendered for and subsequently awarded to qualified bidders".

"For the constituency executives to ask the president to choose between the MCE and them, it is tantamount to asking the president to choose between a bunch of self- seeking vampires and the development of the Tamale Metropolis”.

The NPP Electoral Area Coordinators and Polling Station officers noted that, since assumption of office, the Tamale Mayor, Hon Iddrisu Musah Superior initiated several social development interventions including decongestion of the Central business district, sanitizing major forest reserves off drug peddlers and wee smokers, removing minors from the streets at ungodly hours, massive improvement in the streets and community lighting in the metropolis, undertaking of major infrastructural developments and more.

The NPP group added that, the good works of the Tamale Mayor received commendations from chiefs, opinion leaders, religious leaders and other well-meaning Ghanaians. “These solid achievements, have earned Hon Iddrisu Musah Superior the prestigious award as the best M.C.E in West Africa for 2018 by the West African Regional Magazine”.

“Ladies and Gentlemen, are these not the constitutional mandate of a Metropolitan Chief Executive? We then ask which of the aforementioned records are the Constituency Executives using as basis to demand the removal of the MCE from office?”

The NPP Electoral Area Coordinators and Polling Station officers therefore made a passionate appeal to the leadership of the party to as matter of urgency, call the Tamale North and South Constituency Executives to order and redirect their efforts to the very purpose for which they were elected into office, “that is to deliver the parliamentary seats of these two constituents in the future”.

“We demand an unconditional apology from the said Constituency Executives to the President, the MCE and the good people of Tamale for bringing the name of the Metropolis, party, and government into disrepute. Should they fail to do so, we will have no option than to invoke the Article 10 of the NPP constitution to seek for their removal from office as Executives of the noble party to save us such embarrassment in the future”
