Mr Salifu Saeed, the Northern Regional Minister, has called for a total change of attitude in the region to foster unity, peace and development.
He said some of the problems the region faced can be attributed to negative attitudes exhibited by some individuals and stressed that a total change of attitudes to positive thinking would not only foster unity but would attract more investors to the region.
Mr Saeed made the appeal at separate congregations of Muslims on Sunday and Monday during the Eid Ul-Fitr prayers in Tamale to end the month long Ramadan fast.
He said the patience exhibited by all Muslims to end the Ramadan in a self restrained manner must also be used when addressing differences saying, “If we can sustain the discipline that we demonstrated during the Ramadan then let it manifest in all our daily activities to promote continued peace and unity of purpose”.
He said there is no need for a pluralized region because Dagbon was one not two saying, “when two brothers are fighting the enemy would inherit their property and that is why we need total peace in the region to be able to protect our properties”.
Mr Saeed said the New Patriotic Party government would address the problems of all including Zongo communities hence the appointment of a Minister in charge of Zongo development and urged the public to exercise patience as development would not elude them.
Mr Haruna Iddrisu, Minority leader in Parliament, joined the Regional Minister and his deputy Solomon Boar to pray in the Ambariya Mosque on Monday.
Sheikh Issahaku Abubakar Tanko of the Ambariya Mosque, who led the prayers, stressed the need for Muslims show love and compassion to one another to strengthen the unity in the society.
He urged the public use the occasion to build stronger ties by forgiving one another to ensure that peace and development occurs.
