´Attitudinal change needed on communal activities´

Ghanaians have been urged to change their attitude towards environmental sanitation and communal activities.

The call was made by Alhaji Kabiru Ashong Katai, the Assemblyman for Korle Dudor, during the National Sanitation Day cleanup exercise organised at Ayalolo and Agbogbloshie in Accra.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency during the exercise, he said the location of major markets in the area made sanitation; especially the creation and evacuation of refuse a herculean challenge.

Alhaji Ashong Katai said with the concerted effort of the communities, market traders, store keepers and owners the sanitation problem could be solved.

“Sanitation and health matters do not carry partisan colours; sickness does not discriminate and can attack any person or class,” the Assemblyman said.

Nana Yaw Sarfo, the Chairman of the Ghana Porters Union at Agbogbloshie, urged identifiable groups to join the exercise to ensure its success.

He said even though there have been an improvement in sanitation in the area, all stakeholders should participate in the programme to sustain the gains made so far.
