Attitudinal change needed to manage floods - Bank CEO

Chief Executive officer of the Upper Manya Kro Rural bank, Andrew Akyampong has called for attitudinal change among Ghanaians in the fight against perennial flooding in Accra and related sanitation issues in other parts of the country.

According to him , for a country to successfully curb the menace, the general public must change their attitude to help improve sanitation in communities.

Mr. Akyampong was speaking on the sidelines of an attitudinal change conference organized by Educate Ghana Summit at Asesewa in the eastern region.

The Upper Manya Kro rural bank as part of its corporate social responsibility and improving the living standards of the people in their operational areas, has partnered educate Ghana summit to bring drastic attitudinal change among Ghanaians.

The attitudinal change and motivation conference is aimed at training the mindset and attitudes of the younger generation to enable them to appreciate the need to do things right regardless of the consequences.

The CEO, Andrew Akyampong says the bank was compelled to go beyond its annual budget to support the program due to its necessity.

" We supported the program because we think it's a good initiative, what the children have initiated is a good thing and they must be encouraged. In this area Upper Manya Kro rural bank is the leading financial institution so if there's a program like this why won't we support". He explained.

Mr. Akyampong is convinced, a positive attitude towards environmental issues will help win the fight against flooding and related sanitation issues.

" The floods that submerged parts of Accra and destroyed properties is our own doing because there are human beings who prefer to dispose off refuse in gutters and drains anytime it rains. These refuse go to block waterways so whenever there's a heavy downpour we have the places all flooded " Mr. Akyampong lamented.
