The country will not experience
The Communications Manager of Ghana National Gas Company (Ghana Gas) Ernest Kofi Owusu Bempah is assuring Ghanaians that the country will not experience load shedding popularly known as ‘dumsor following the shutdown of Atuabo Gas Processing plant.
He explained that GNGC engaged with all the relevant agencies such as the VRA, GRIDCO and EGG to put in place contingency measures to ensure that there is no ‘dumsor’.
The Ghana Gas in a statement issued last Wednesday announced that the Atuabo Gas Processing plant will be shut down from February 1 to February 25, 2018 for a mandatory maintenance work.
This has raised fears as among some many Ghanaians.
But speaking on Oman FM, Ernest Owusu Bempah allayed the fears of Ghanaians of possible ‘dumsor’
“We have had series of meetings with relevant agencies for the past three months. VRA has put in place contingency plan to make sure that they rely on other alternatives sources of energy to power their plants so that within that period there will be no problem,” he said.
Owusu Bempah stated that the current administration led by President Nana Akufo-Addo is putting measures in place to make sure that power crisis becomes a thing of the past in the country.
Meanwhile, the Volta River Authority (VRA) says it has put in place contingency measures to avert gas supply shortfall that could occur as a result of the shutdown of Atuabo Gas Processing plant.
A statement issued and copied to Oman News, said: “We will operate up to two turbines on Light Crude Oil (LCO) in combined cycle mode to generate up to 300MW from Aboadze to support the system.”
In addition, VRA will receive on demand up to 200MW of power from La Cote d’Ivoire to complement generation, “the statement said.
The statement concluded that “All other VRA facilities; hydro, thermal and solar, are available and operating at optimum capacity.”
