Atuguba Warns: You can’t play political chess with us

Next time a politician is on the verge of saying anything about the court, he should pause for a moment, do a quick rethink and if his words are abusive free, then we can urge him to go on and say it loud.

But should his language be made up of abusive words, then he better halt it and swallow his pride.

The Supreme Court, led by His Lordship Justice William Atuguba on Wednesday warned politicians in the country not to assume they are sly and can dribble their ways through when caught in the judicial net of no return.

Using Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie who goes by the moniker Sir John as a case study, Justice Atuguba explained that when they summoned him and told him to appear before the court to explain his position, he went on various airwaves claiming he wasn’t called Sir John.

Justice Atuguba wondered why this same Sir John who had earlier claimed was not the one served with the summons, had decided to appear before the court to answer questions reserved for him.

"You see this is one of the worrying things in this country. The way some politicians play the game, they think they can dribble everybody, play political chess with everybody and get away with it,” he announced in an unfriendly tone.

But the presiding judge over the 2012 election petition maintained that for the serious repercussions, such moves could have on the nation’s security, the court wouldn’t allow politicians to foment trouble for the nation.
