Atwima Assembly weakened financially with creation of new district

Nkawie (Ash), Feb. 3, GNA - Mr Charles Yeboah, acting Atwima District Chief Executive has stated that the financial position of the assembly would be affected with the creation of the Atwima-Mponua District.

He said for instance, the assembly's revenue from stool lands will suffer.

Addressing the assembly at its third ordinary meeting at Nkawie, Mr Yeboah urged the assembly members to work hard in the area of the collection of rates, fees and fines.

He announced that the African Development Bank (ADB) would assist the assembly to sink about 250 boreholes and construct 400 household toilets in the district.

Through the assembly's share of the common fund, Mr Yeboah said, the assembly had built a police station, a circuit court, a district education office and a district education director's bungalow, all at Nkawie at the total cost of 600 million cedis.

He commended the three senior secondary schools in the district for their remarkable improvement, which reflected in their impressive performance at the 2004 Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE).

The assembly also congratulated President J.A. Kufuor on his re-election at the December 7 presidential elections.

The assembly honoured some hard working assembly members, workers, among them was Mr Eddy Obeng-Darko, the District Director of Education for promoting education in the district.
