Nyinahin (Ash), Feb. 16, GNA - An active case search conducted by the Atwima-Mponua District Health Directorate from June to July last year identified the emergence of new diseases in the District. They include scabies, ringworm, lumps in the breast of women and scrotal hernia among others.

The search named the common diseases in the District as malaria, buruli ulcer, leprosy, tuberculosis (TB), yaws and onchocerciasis. Madam Belinda Baffoe Bonney, District Director of Health Services, made this known at the District's annual performance review meeting held at Nyinahin on Friday.

She gave the assurance that the Directorate would use every available means to arrest the emergence of the new diseases to prevent their spread.

Madam Bonney said the Community-Based Growth Promotion Programme had 39 trained volunteers who carried out growth promotion services in the District.

The District Health Director said her outfit had distributed about 506 insecticide treated mosquito nets to all health facilities in the District, which were sold to pregnant women. She said her outfit would intensify its education on the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and embark on clinical outreach services in most of the health institutions.

Madam Bonney pointed out that working in a new district with limited resources was very challenging but said with a lot of effort from the committed staff, stakeholders and other collaborators, there would be a lot of improvement in health delivery in the new year. She expressed appreciation to the District Assembly for providing 100 million cedis to support the National Immunisation Programme, child health, yellow fever programmes, the training of health aides and the provision of anaesthetic machine to the Nyinahin Government Hospital.
