Nyinahin (Ash), Aug. 13, GNA - The Atwima-Mponua National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), has as of the end of June this year, registered a total of 90,967 people.
This represents 57.33 per cent of the district's population.
Mr Appiah Sarfo-Kantanka, the District Scheme Manager, said out of the figure, 33,959 are in the informal sector, 42,924 under the age of 18 years, with 2,218 of them being SSNIT contributors and the number of pregnant women standing at 5,999.
He told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview that they were on course to hit 60 per cent coverage by the close of the year.
Mr Sarfo-Kantanka described claims payment to the health facilities as encouraging.
The scheme is currently indebted to service providers to the tune of GH¢18,033.00
He said the major challenge facing the scheme is the lack of adequate office space and residential accommodation.
