Auditor General may be cited for criminal prosecution - Oppong Nkrumah

The Auditor General could be cited for criminal offence if he does not comply with orders from the High Court in retrieving monies wrongfully paid to private companies by the previous administration.

“The Auditor General has been reneging on his duty and the whole affairs of things have happened and brought this country dry. …he could be cited for criminal prosecution”, a Deputy Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah stated.

The Minister last Saturday on Joy FM’s news analysis programme Newsfile, pointed out that the Auditor General has no excuse to retrieve those monies in the hands of wrong people.

The High Court granted reliefs that the Auditor General Department could act on its accord to retrieve stolen monies belonging to the state from individuals and private companies.

“Sometimes officials assume they do not have to work until the people demonstrate and go to court before they are compelled to work” the minister observed

Hon. Oppong Nkrumah, who is also Member of Parliament (MP) for Ofoase Ayirebi Constituency in the Eastern Region, revealed that government will soon drag individuals failing to work to ensure state monies are not retrieve as mandated by the law before the courts.

But according to the Auditor General Daniel Domelevo in response, said despite the court’s order, the state needs enough evidence to reinforce it powers before it can retrieve those monies from the people.
