The Australian High Commission has joined the Salvation Army to provide assorted food items to victims of the June 3 floods that killed 159 people and displaced many others.

Hundreds of the victims, who are now rebuilding their lives, weeks after the disaster, heaved a sigh of relief, when the staff of the Australian High Commission with the Salvation Army members visited the affected areas.

The National Disaster Management Organisation, which received the items, is expected to distribute them to the affected people.

A statement copied to Ghana News Agency, on Thursday, by the Australian High Commission, said the Commission had earlier presented items valued at GH¢ 10,000 towards the flood relief efforts.

However, this has since increased to GH¢ 23,177.56, approximately 7,000 Australian dollars, the statement said.

It quoted the High Commissioner, Joanna Adamson, as saying, “Our hearts go out to all those affected by these terrible events.”
