Australian High Commission, NGO gifts over Ghc90,000 project in Ho, Accra

The Australian High Commission in Ghana has funded two projects, ten-seater modern toilet facilities for cured lepers in Ho in the Volta region and Accra psychiatric hospital in the greater Accra region.

The two projects funded through a partnership with a Ghanaian based governmental organisation, Mental Health and Well-Being Foundation (MHWF) is worth Ghc90,789.00.

The partners on Wednesday, January 15 handed over the cheque to Hayford Plumbing Services, a construction firm based in Ho and expected to complete the project in April, 2020.

Speaking to Class News after a short handing-over ceremony held at the premises of the beneficiaries in Godokpui within the Ho municipality, the Treasurer of the Foundation, Dr. Yaw Amankwa Arthur, said the main objective of the donation is to improve quality of life of the cured lepers.

Volta Regional Project Director of MHWF, Divine Kpoha, expressed his gratitude to the Australian High Commission in Ghana for the kind gesture, he indicated that the initiative will go long way to deal with issues of open defecation in the village.

The contractor, Hayford, said he is optimistic the project will be completed and handed over to the people after three months of working without any hesitation and excuses.

The Assembly Member for the area who appealed for the facility, Anthony Kofi Bruce, on his side was grateful for the initiative and promised to work with the donors to ensure proper maintenance of the facility when completed.

" as you are seeing it, it is about to materialise in our life so I am grateful to God, so I am here standing on the behalf of the community a very big thank you to them (the donors) for their support their coming to give to this community here in Godokpui, and I promise when finished it will be put into good use and maintenance culture too will be adhered to" he noted

Currently, there is one leprosarium in Ho, Godokpui village and Godokpui Anyigbe as its main yard, the facility is housing hundreds of cured lepers from across the Volta/Oti regions.
