Authorities at the Kumasi Academy Senior High School (KUMACA) under the supervision of Asokore Mampong Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Alidu Seidu have begun decongestion exercise in the school’s dormitories.

Four students of KUMACA have died this month from what has been found to be Swine flu.

The Minister of Health Kwaku Agyeman-Manu has confirmed that the unexplained deaths that has hit KUMACA were caused by a respiratory illness known as Influenza H1N1 209.

A Viral Fumigation and cleanup exercise has begun at KUMACA.

There are seven dormitories in the school.

The MCE told Abusua FM’s Osei Kwadwo that since Influenza H1N1 209 is airborne disease, it has become necessary for decongestion exercise in the various dormitories.

According to him, government and Ghana Health Service (GHS) are putting proper measures in place to find lasting solution to the problem.

“There is an ongoing dormitory project started by the PTA in the school, we are going to support them and finish that project so we can house some of the students there. There is also a library project which started by former President J.A Kuffour, we will convert it to dormitory temporarily,” he said.

He revealed that three students are currently on admission at Kumasi South government hospital; five students are on admission at KNUST hospital and two students on admission at KATH hospital.

Alidu Seidu stated that GHS and authorities will consider fumigation exercise and vaccines in some communities at Asokore Mampong Municipal such as Sepe and Sawaba.

He said the exercise is not confirmed yet but is within their thoughts.
