Residents of Ave Voe a farming community in the Volta Region are in a celebratory mood, thanks to a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), Water for Rural Africa (WRA), who donated a mechanized borehole with a storage poly tank worth thousand of cedis on Tuesday December 26.

WRA came to the aid of Ave Voe after they discovered that the small village in the Akatsi North District travelled about 10 kilometers just to fetch water that was even contaminated in another village.

The donation of the merchandised borehole with a storage poly tank comes after the WRA inspected that the initial borehole drilled for the people had become unsafe for drinking.

According to WRA, the total cost of drilling, mechanization, storage facility and construction of storage platform amounted to GHC 25,400 cedis.

Presenting the merchandised borehole Founder and Leader of WRA, Dr. Donald Senanu Agumenu, said their charity was fully funded with their personal income with no support from the Government and their aid was in line with the Sustainable Development Goal 6 of the United Nation by helping provide a clean sanitation and portable water for drinking.

Dr. Senanu said he was motivated after "Former President JJ Rawlings said the water we use to flash our WC's in the cities are more cleaner than the one's drunk in the village."

"I could count close about 20 places in the Volta Region that we have done this for, but the vision is about Africa, so we will be moving to other parts in Ghana and other parts in Africa where they have water difficulties," he said.

Chief of Ave Voe, Togbe Adelakpui was grateful to WRA for their charitable deed and emphasized that the facility would go a long way to benefit the village and it environs.

The team from WRA inspected other projects they've been to complete in other villages and also donated items to children in the neighbourhood.
