The Avenor Traditional Council has set up a seven-member committee to investigate the Akatsi Senior High Technical School abysmal performance in the 2018 West Africa Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

Out of 533 candidates the School presented for the Examination, only 30 representing six percent of the total population got grades that could land them in tertiary institutions.

Mr Edward Doe Adade, Assembly Member for the Tatorme-Fiato Electoral Area, who petitioned the Traditional Council to investigate the School's poor performance, noted that "the result is a departure from the normal results the school has been obtaining in past years".

He said the result was an indication that something was wrong with the overall academic set-up of the school and if pragmatic measures were not immediately taken, things could fall apart.

Mr Adade said he petitioned the chiefs after meeting with the School's authorities on steps to take to regain its academic glory after realizing that the students failed woefully in the four core subjects.

Togbui Dorglo Anuma IV, President of the Avenor Traditional Council and the Paramount Chief of Avenor, who received the petition and instituted the committee, said information received showed that the 2018 WASSCE results were the worse in recent years.

Togbui Azadagli lll, Chief of Akatsi Tatorme and Chairman of the Committee, assured that the committee would carry out an in-depth analysis of the circumstances that might have led to the school's poor performance.

The Headmaster of the School, Mr Dickson Amemazior, when contacted declined to comment on the issue.

However, further checks by the Ghana News Agency (GNA) revealed that indiscipline on the part of students and lack of unity among the school authorities contributed to the School's poor performance.

Mr Yoga Joseph Adovor, Akatsi South Director of the Ghana Education Service (GES), assured that recommendations from the Committee would be strictly adhered to improve academic performance in the District.
