Aveyime (V/R), June 27, GNA - Communities in the Dangbe West, Dangbe East and North Tongo districts are to benefit from an 11-million dollar water treatment plant that would serve the areas.

The Aveyime Water Treatment Plant Project, which is meant to provide clean potable water to 120 communities in the Greater Accra and Volta regions, is being constructed by a Chinese construction company and sponsored by the British, Danish and Ghana governments.

During a tour of the facilities on Wednesday, Mr Hackman Owusu-Agyemang, Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing, said the project was part of the government's efforts to ensure that the citizenry had access to good drinking water.

He said the project, which was on test, started a year ago and was to provide water to about 110,000 people in the districts. Mr. Owusu-Agyemang said as time went on, the plant could be expanded to cater for more districts in the area.

The Minister noted that with the inauguration of the Water Resource Commission to manage the water system, the population would be educated on the importance of water conservation.

He expressed the hope that the installation of a water plant in the area would attract the business community to invest there. He commended the Chinese construction company for a good work done. The Minister again inspected a water storage tank for the Ayisah community in the Dangbe East District and also interacted with the Sege Area Council.

He advised them to educate their people on the need to conserve water and take good care of the facilities that had been installed.
