Ghana’s Aviation Minister and Member of Parliament (MP) for Navrongo central, Joseph Kofi Adda has donated some Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) and other medical supplies to the War Memorial Hospital in Navrongo to support the facility fight the novel Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19).

Mr. Adda assisted the hospital with items including 10 boxes of hand gloves, 10 pieces of pulse oximeters, 15 thermometer guns, 10 gallons of methylated spirit and six pieces of spirometers.

The rest of the items are 10 pieces of gowns, 54 face masks, bottles of alcohol-based hand sanitizers, 30 pieces of 500g cotton wool, blood lancets, 2 bottles of polar ice, 10 pieces of scrub, 100 Nurse cups, tissue paper, boxes of liquid and cake soap and ten ‘Veronica Buckets’.

This is the second time Mr. Adda has shown a commitment to the fight against the viral pandemic in his constituency. He initially ordered the Kasena-Nankana Municipal Assembly to release Ghc40,000 to the health directorate to support COVID-19 response measures in the area.

Making the presentation on Monday at the premises of the hospital, Mr. Adda said the need to adequately prepare health workers in the Municipality to fight the disease, to safeguard the people of the area, motivated him.

Giving them assurance that he would make more donations to the health directorate, he directed that the items be evenly shared among the health facilities in the area to resource them to control the spread of the virus.

“I’m particular about the CHPS compounds. They play a key role in this fight and they should get some of the items, especially the hand sanitizers. We have to share with them and I will follow up to see how it’s done”. He directed.

The MP also visited a site within the facility to prepare for the construction of a two-storey modern theatre for the hospital. There, he said the theatre when complete will be furnished with modern equipment to improve health care delivery. He said the project will be funded by the One Million per Constituency Initiative of the government.

For his part, the administrator of the hospital, Bentie Abubakari, who received the items on behalf of the hospital management, thanked the MP for coming to their aid with the donation. He assured that the PPEs would be used for the intended purpose in order to give health workers protection from the disease as they tackle the virus.

He pledged to work together with the health directorate to distribute some of the items to the CHPS compounds as the MP has suggested.

The administrator pleaded with other benevolent individuals and groups to assist the health directorate with more supplies to ameliorate the difficulties of health personnel in the area in this hard time of the COVID-19.

“We thank you for the efforts you are putting to ensure the safety of the health workers and the community at large. We will continue to pray for you for good health and strength and more resources so that in future when we cry again, you will respond to our needs”.

In another development, Mr. Joseph Kofi Adda has inspected sites for the construction of a 6-unit classroom block in Nawognia and the construction of community centres in Pungu and Naaga.

He also visited the site of a library project he started for the Municipality some time ago, to hand over to the contractors for work to begin. Mr. Adda said the library project is dear to his heart and he would channel resources to ensure it is completed to serve the people of the constituency.
