Accra, Dec 10, GNA - A number of workers belonging to the various agencies under the Ministry of Aviation, on Saturday embarked upon a power walk in Accra to raise awareness on the need to exercise and not be sedentary.

The workers, numbering about 200 and led by Ms Gloria Akuffo, Minister of Aviation, began the walk amidst brass band music and merry making from the Aviation Social Centre to the 37 Millitary Hospital through to the Cantonments Police Hospital.

They then continued to the Ghana International School, ending up at the Elwak traffic light and then back to the Aviation Social Centre. Ms Akuffo said the walk was basically to serve as a stress reliever, adding that it was a good means of re-ernergizing staff for a tedious working week.

She said it was also healthy for staff to periodically find time to come together and get to know each other and also reflect upon their short-comings.

Ms. Akuffo urged that such exercise be carried out frequently, adding that with security being of great importance to the Aviation Industry, keeping fit was crucial to people who were indispensable so far as ensuring maximum security in society was concerned. Touching on the 93de-coupling=94 of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), Ms Akuffo said the move was to promote efficiency in the Aviation Industry, adding that this was expected to take place early next year.

Under the new system, the GCAA would function only as a regulatory body, whilst another body would be responsible for airports in the country.
