Ya-Naa Abukari Mahama II has been advised by the People’s National Convention (PNC) to desist from political influences and stand firmly for the values and beliefs of the people of Dagbon.

The PNC in a statement stated that Dagombas chose the current peace they are enjoying, therefore, it is compulsory for them to chart a new path for themselves.

“After almost 2 decades of chieftaincy conflicts, it is worth commending their final resolve to change the narrative. The current peace is because Dagombas choose it, it is not an imposition from any person or group” the statement reads on.

The conflict resolution and the coronation of Ya-Naa Abukari Mahama II, according to the PNC marks a turning point for the Dagbon people which attracted the collaboration and contribution of many stakeholders without whom the resolution would not have happened.

They, however, congratulated the Otumfuo-led Committee of eminent Chiefs which was made up of the Nayiri and Yagbonwura for instituting and directing the roadmap for peace which today has seen the selection of a new Ya-Naa.

PNC CONGRATULATES DAGBON AND YA-NA

The PNC officially wishes to extend congratulations to the new YA-NAA and the Dagbon Kingdom.

After almost 2 decades of chieftaincy conflicts, it is worth commending their final resolve to change the narrative. The current peace is because Dagombas choose it, it is not an imposition from any person or group.

The event which marked this historic turning point for the Dagbon people attracted the collaboration and contribution of all stakeholders without whom the resolution would not have happened.

The expression of relief combined with the joyous celebrations experienced, all testified that this was a long-awaited outcome for the Dagbon people and the whole nation as well.

It is our position that in charting a new path for the people of Dagbon, the Ya-Naa should avoid interference from political influences and stand firmly for the values and beliefs of his people.

We particularly congratulate the Otumfuo-led Committee of eminent Chiefs comprising the Nayiri and Yagbonwura for instituting and directing the roadmap for peace which today has seen the selection of a new Ya-Naa.

Commendations go to the two regents from the Abudu and Andani gates for wholeheartedly committing to the peace process and finally accepting the choice of Yo-Naa Abukari Mahama as the New Ya-Na. We congratulate the new Ya-Naa for getting the honourable title ahead of other equally competent men who showed interest.

It is an indication that he has the required credentials to lead the Dagbon Kingdom.

It is the fervent belief and hope of the PNC that the new Ya-Na would distinguish himself during his rule to vindicate the confidence reposed in him by the people of Dagbon in particular and Ghana at large. We believe strongly that he would pursue the path of peace, unity and togetherness to project the rich culture of Dagbon to meet the aspirations and expectations of his subjects.

We have no doubt that Ya-Naa Abukari Mahama is up to the task and has what it takes to rule diligently.

On behalf of the PNC, we thank former president J. A Kufuor for the vision to set up the committee of eminent chiefs to draw the roadmap. Former presidents J.E. A Mills and John Dramani Mahama continuing the settlement path and reconstructing the Gbewaa Palace as well as President Akufo Addo have shown considerable commitment to the process as started and the end result vindicates their individual and collective efforts.
