AwaaWaa2 annex to assist children with communication challenges – Founder

AwaaWaa2, an early intervention centre, has launched its annex to aid in the socialization of children between 18 to 48 months, who have communication disabilities.

In an exclusive interview with Ghanaweb, founder of AwaaWaa2, Nana Akua Owusu explained that AwaaWaa2 will help in the socialization of such children, especially in their interpersonal relations.

She added that the centre works hand in hand with parents to help them cope with their children’s disabilities.

“The centre supports the children to be included at home because many homes find it very difficult to support a child with communication difficulties so the children, in the home, are isolated sometimes. So we are working with parents and we are working with the child so that we teach the parents how to assist the child to be part of what happens in the home,” she posited.

Madam Owusu bemoaned challenges such as lack of funding for some needy children who attend their sessions.

She also disclosed that the inability to acquire a land has been a hindrance to getting a permanent location for the organization since there are benevolent individuals who have offered to establish a building for the organization.

“We have been trying to get a land. There have been some philanthropists who have come in and want to help and build something for us. But we don’t have land. It is very difficult to access land in this country. There is also a countless number of children who need help but who cannot get it because they cannot afford it,” she lamented.

Madam Owusu called on benevolent individuals to assist the centre in cash or in kind, in order to make the AwaaWaa2 dream a reality.



AwaaWaa2 is a registered charity set up in 2004 to assess and support children with speech and language difficulties and their parents.

AwaaWaa2 provides services such as therapy sessions, school outreach, classroom facilitation as well as training and education.
