Superintendent Emmanuel Nii Annan Ofori, Awutu Bawjiase District Police Commander, has appealed for support to build a District Police Headquarters and a permanent police station capable of housing all departments required for effective work.
He said this will go a long way to enhance policing which was not only to restore public law and order but also assist in re-establishing the confidence of the population.
Supt Ofori said this as part of the commemoration of the 2018 WASSA activities held at Bawjiase in Awutu Senya District.
The event was held under the theme: “Consolidating idea against vigilantism for National Safety”.
On crime statistics, Supt. Ofori said, for the first and second quarters of the year, the station recorded one robbery in 2018 against one in 2019 while stealing cases reduced from 31 in 2018 to 21 in 2019.
He said we are in an era of “Democratic Policing” where police and public are accountable, subject to the rule of law and respect of human dignity.
The Commander urged the personnel under his jurisdiction to work harder to ensure that peace prevails in the area.
“The role of the Police role in a democratic society is to protect, rather than to impede freedoms and they must provide a safe orderly environment in which these freedoms can be exercised”, he said.
Supt. Ofori expressed gratitude to all police officers and the Community Police Assistants stationed at Awutu Bawjiase District Command for their valuable sacrifices made to effectively police the area.
