Awutu Bawjiase (C/R), July 17, GNA – Leaders of the Awutu Bawjiase Blessed Youth Club, have chosen September 2nd as an annual tree planting day.
This year, the planting exercise will take place at Awutu Bawjiase along the banks of some selected rivers in the community.
It would serve as one of the important annual social activities to mark the yearly Awubia festival of the chiefs and people of the Awutu Traditional Area.
Mr Emmanuel Asamani, Chairman of the Club, announced this at a meeting organised by the leaders of the club at Awutu Bawjiase on Friday.
Mr Asamani, who is also the assemblyman for Bawjiase Zongo Akpeshika Electoral Area, said in all about 2,000 seedlings of cassia and other species have been ordered from the Winneba Forestry Department for the formal launching of the programme.
He said the initial tree planting exercise would be on September 2nd and 3rd and appealed particularly to non-members of the club to join forces with the registered members to make the programme a success.
Mr Asamani reminded Awutu citizens of the key role trees play in the socio-economic development of the nation, adding that the rationale behind the programme was to protect river bodies in and around Awutu Bawjiase and make them functional all the time.
He appealed to individuals, companies, non-governmental organisations and establishments to support the club financially to enable it procure more seedlings and also establish its own nurseries to sustain the programme.
