Awutu Health Insurance Scheme collects 41.6 million cedis premium

Winneba, June 22, GNA- The Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Health Mutual Insurance Scheme, has collected a total of 57 million cedis as registration fee and premiums from 30,000 people. The amount is made up of 41.6 million cedis as registration fees and 16.2 million cedis premium from over 30,000 contributors.

Mr Felix Kwei-Tagoe, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the scheme, said this at the confirmation of the board and adoption of a constitution for the scheme. He said 5,000 cedis was charged per person as registration fee and 72,000.00 cedis as premium for those in the informal sector. He said the scheme had been able to acquire a database system to capture information on contributors.

Mr Kwei-Tagoe expressed concern about the low number of people who have registered with the scheme and called for a sustained public education to improve on the network.

Mr Solomon Kwashie Abban-Quaye, District Chief Executive, said the assembly would assist the scheme to register 100,000 additional people by the end of the year.

Dr G.K. Morrison, District Director of Health Services, urged members of the assembly to educate their people on the importance of the scheme.
