Awutu Mankessim gets computer laboratory

A computer laboratory and library has been built for the Mankessim cluster of schools near Awutu Bawjiase in the Central Region.

The facility was built at a cost of 35,000 dollars by Praxis Africa, a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) based in the United States of America.

Dr Delore Zimmerman, Director of the NGO, said the facility was to assist the pupils and students to become computer literate.

He said arrangements have been completed with Vodafone Ghana to hook the center onto the internet.

Dr Zimmeman, who has been installed the Development Chief of Awutu Mankessim, with a stool name Nai Awuah Kotoko I, appealed to adults in the area to take advantage of information and communication technology to better their lot.

He said the facility was brought to Awutu Mankessim through the instrumentality of Mr Tonny Mensah, Project Co-ordinator of Praxis Africa, to support children’s education in the area.

Dr Zimmerman said the NGO had drawn up an exchange programme on computer studies with the students of Awutu Mankessim and students in Maryland, USA.

He said the NGO also donated 3000 assorted books for the library attached to the computer laboratory to help students to improve their reading skills.

Nai Kwao Otuo, Ankobeahene of Awutu Traditional Area and Chief of Awutu Mankessim, urged chiefs to use their positions as community leaders to promote unity and development.

Nai Klabi Klottey, Omankrado of Awutu Traditional Area, who chaired the function, expressed appreciation to the NGO and Nai Kwao Otuo for the establishment of the center.

He cautioned the students not to abuse the use of the internet but must derive the maximum benefit it offered to enhance their studies.
