Awutu-Senya Assembly sets aside funds for loans to micro and small enterprises

Kasoa, C/R, Dec 17, GNA - The Awutu-Senya District Assembly has set aside GHC15,000.00 as counterpart fund to support the 40,000 US dollars released by the International Labour Organization(ILO) to be given as loan facility to micro and small enterprises. Mr Kwesi Esseku, Presiding Member of the Assembly said this at a day's capacity building workshop for owners of about 80 Micro and small enterprises in the Awutu District.

It was organized and sponsored by the Central Region Development Commission (CEDECOM) and was aimed at training hairdressers, tailors and dressmakers, fishmongers, market women and owners of garages on financial, business and entrepreneur managements

Mr Esseku said the programme forms efforts by the assembly to create jobs, ensure sound business management and poverty reduction in the district. As part of the poverty reduction strategy by the government on Private partnership programme (PPP), the ILO has given 40,000 dollars to eight districts in the Central Region to promote micro and small businesses.

Mr Cecil Abaka-Otoo, Director of Communication of CEDECOM said the objective of the programme was to enable the participants to understand and appreciate the importance as well as the challenges confronting the micro and small enterprises. He hoped that the workshop would assist the participants to explore market avenues for their products and also promote business.

The Director of Communication stated that it would also serve as a morale booster, aimed at encouraging workers to perform efficiently and effectively on their jobs. Mr Abaka-Otoo stressed that the main objective of CEDECOM was to enhance the socio-economic well-being of the people in the Central Region by creating enabling environment for sustainable development.
