Presidential Candidate of the People’s National Convention (PNC) in the 2012 elections, Hassan Ayariga, has picked forms to bid a second time to lead the party.

According to Mr Ayariga, the fortunes of PNC in the last elections were bad because members were not united behind him.

“You don’t send a general to war without an army,” he explained to TV3’s Jonathan Adams.

“I went to the war field without an army.”

Speaking on Tuesday, November 3 after the party opened nominations ahead of its congress, Mr Ayariga said he sees the party united now.

He added that 2012 was also his first time of contesting the presidency and the margin of the PNC was similar to what had been obtained in previous elections.

“The second time of my presidency [ambitions] will show whether I am increasing the fortunes of PNC or stabilising the fortunes or bringing it down.”

Mahama considers 5th bid

Mr Ayariga had hinted of re-standing to be elected PNC's flagbearer during a stakeholders' forum on the voters' register organised by the Electoral Commission last week.

He told the audience that if attitudes are changed - and not a change in the current register - "Dr Hassan Ayariga will become the next president of Ghana".

That came as a surprise after telling members of the party at a forum in Kumasi that he will not stand again because of the attitude of some executives.

But the young businessman’s fortunes will not come easy this time around as four-time presidential candidate of the party, Dr Edward Mahama, is considering returning to lead the party in 2016.

“I am a leader who listens to the people I lead and since 2012 the call has been 'Come and lead us'.

“I am listening and I will make a decision very soon.”
