A former Attorney General and Minister of Justice in the Kufuor administration has made a passionate appeal to members and supporters of the NPP from the party’s stronghold constituencies outside the Greater Accra region to register and vote in the capital to ensure that the party wins majority of the parliamentary seats in Accra.
In the view of Nii Ayikoi Otoo, who is the NPP parliamentary candidate for Krowor, registering and voting in the capital will also spare them the difficult task of travelling to their hometowns to vote on Election Day.
He added that it would also prevent the situation where some people do not vote at all because of difficulties associated with getting vehicles to go and vote in their hometowns.
“I’m making a passionate appeal to our friends, especially those from our strongholds in Ashanti, Eastern and Brong-Ahafo regions, to register and vote here, because in the constituencies you come from we will always win the parliamentary elections with comfortable margins and voting for the presidential candidate in Accra is the same as doing so in your home constituency,” he appealed.
Nii Ayikoi Otoo made the appeal when he swore in a 200-member campaign team for the “Zone 3” area of the party in the constituency at Nungua over the weekend. The campaign team is made up 20 members from each of the 10 polling stations that make up the Zone. A similar exercise took place at the Bask Academy polling station, where he swore in the 20-member campaign team for the area.
The parliamentary candidate told the campaign team the leadership of the party was leaving no stone unturned in the party’s determination to annex the seat from the ruling National Democratic Congress in the 2012 elections and also contribute to winning the presidential election.
“Indications are clear that we are poised to win both the parliamentary and presidential elections. But let us not be complacent; let’s work hard and continue to sacrifice to ensure the much needed victory which will be determined at the polling stations, which are in your hands,” he charged the campaign team.
Nii Ayikoi Otoo told the party activists he was enthused about the increasing support the party now enjoys in the constituency, adding “now people in areas that we could not go in the past are now itching for us.”
He bemoaned the fact that Nungua lags behind others, such as their neighbours in Teshie, in terms of development, attributing it to the absence of an effective mouthpiece to articulate the concerns and problems of the people.
“We have not have water running through our taps for about a month now; our fishermen cannot find pre-mix fuel to buy here; our neighbours are getting more and more projects unlike us, all because we don’t have a strong voice in parliament to articulate our problems and lobby for the necessary action to be taken to address our concerns and problems,” he stressed.
Nii Ayikoi Otoo urged the people to support him to win the Krowor seat in the 2012 election, and do same for Nana Akufo-Addo, NPP flagbearer, to ensure development in the constituency.
