Member of Parliament for Asuogyaman, Thomas Ampen Nyarko has advised embattled Ghana’s High Commissioner to South Africa, George Ayisi Boateng to consider rather contesting for a position in the governing New Patriotic Party.

According to him, the overly partisan nature of the diplomat will prevent him from discharging his duties fairly to Ghanaians other than political persuasion in the country he serves as Ghana’s representative.

Mr Ayisi Boateng in a meeting with New Patriotic Party (NPP) students in Kumasi last weekend stated that his main priority is party supporters when it comes to providing jobs.

“The job market is choked and it is highly competitive and this government is doing its best to create job opportunities [but] me, for instance, I told my people that it is NPP that is why I am in power so NPP man is my priority.

“My topmost priority is the problem of an NPP person before any other Ghanaian, take it or leave it and indeed I am not boasting,” Mr. Boateng told members of the NPP student wing, the Tertiary Students’ Confederacy Network (TESCON). The comment angered most Ghanaians including the Minority who are calling for his head. The envoy subsequently rendered an unqualified apology.

But Hon. Thomas Ampem Nyarko speaking on Starr FM condemned Mr Ayisi Boateng’s comments saying the latter is not an ambassadorial material.

“He’s not fit for this position (High Commissioner), I believe soon NPP will go for elections for their party positions, he must look for a position in the NPP and occupy, party chairman, secretary or any other position because that is where he can actually work well. But for a position like Ambassador or any other position at the state wide level, it’s not for a person like Ayisi Boateng.”
