Bawku Secondary School has been closed down indefinitely following student unrest on the campus. According to the Upper East Regional Director of Education, Mr.. B..A. Agalga, who ordered the closure, one Master Ben Abubakari Tanko, a final year student caned a number of junior students for no apparent reason. He said the school's disciplinary committee then met and issued a letter suspending Tanko. Mr.. Agalga said when Tanko received the suspension letter, he mobilised the final year students who went on rampage destroying the property of all the tutors who sat on the disciplinary committee that ordered his suspension. They also caused extensive damage to the school's new Science resource centre, the bookshop and the bursar's office. He said the police and personnel of the fire service had to be called in to restore order. Mr.. Agalga said the situation was not good for academic work hence his order to close down school. End
