BECE: Denkyira-Obuasi candidates will write – GES

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has said BECE candidates at Denkyira-Obuasi have no excuse not to sit for the examination which begins today, Monday 5 June, because the venue for the exam is Diaso, the district capital.

According to him, arrangements have been made with headteachers and the District Director of Education to ensure candidates spend the five days of examination at Diaso, which has always been the examination centre for all candidates in the Upper Denkyira West district.

This comes in the wake of concerns over the current situation at Denkyira-Obuasi and how it will affect the conduct of the BECE. A lot of the townsfolk including teachers are yet to return after fleeing to avoid alleged military brutalities over the lynching of army officer Captain Maxwell Mahama on Monday May 29, 2017.

Speaking to Class News, Rev Jonathan Bettey, Public Relations Officer of the GES, said all candidates are expected to be present for their paper this morning.

“The Ghana Education Service, in collaboration with the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), expects all candidates within that catchment area to write their examination because the fact is that their examination centre is not situated in the town,” he stated.

“The examination centre is situated outside the town, which is Diaso, which is always the examination centre for all candidates. So we don’t see any challenge or any big deal in this examination period. We realised that they are going to stay there for five days. We’ve made provisions with the headmasters and District Director [of Education] to organise them to stay in Diaso while writing the exams.”
