Dr Archibald Yao Letsa, Volta Regional Minister has charged Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates in the Volta Region to work hard and make the Region proud.
He said it was their turn to enjoy government’s free Senior High School education policy and that all they needed to do, was to pass well, make the Region proud and take advantage of the policy.
Dr. Letsa said this when he toured some examination centres in the company of Madam Enyonam Afi Amafuga, Volta Regional Director of the Ghana Education Service.
He cautioned the candidates against examination malpractices and commended the West African Examination Council for the smooth start of the examination in the Region.
Supervisors at the Mawuli School and Kabore School Complex centres told the Regional Minister that the examination started on time and that all materials also arrived as scheduled.
At Mawuli School Centre “Ä”, a total of 327 students were on roll, but four, two girls, two boys did not report for the examination.
At Mawuli School Centre “B”, 418 candidates were registered but two girls were absent, one said to have dropped out and the other, the GNA learnt travelled outside the country.
At Kabore School Complex, all 426 candidates reported for the examination with one visually impaired candidate using a magnifying glass.
A total of 36,081 candidates made up of 19,155 boys and 16,926 girls from 1,312 schools are writing this year’s BECE in the Volta Region at 129 examination centres.
Ketu South Municipality has the highest number of candidates, 3,666 with Akatsi North District registering the lowest of 461 candidates.
